If you’re planning to fly with Greater Bay Airlines (HB) and wondering whether it’s a good airline, I’d like to share my experience flying with them from Hong Kong to Bangkok.
For this trip, I flew on a Boeing 737-9, and I think it was a pretty good experience overall. The aircraft was clean, looked quite new, and my flight departed on time.
Considering that Greater Bay Airlines is a budget airline, I think they did a good job, especially for a short flight between Hong Kong and Bangkok.
However, there are a few things you should know before flying with them, particularly when it comes to baggage weight and size.
Food at Hong Kong International Airport

Before boarding our flight, we decided to grab something to eat at Hong Kong International Airport.
There were quite a few restaurants around the area, including Korean food, Chinese food, burgers, pizza, and Japanese food.
There were also plenty of souvenir shops to walk around.
If you’re worried about not being able to find anything to eat after going through immigration, I wouldn’t worry too much. There are still quite a few food options inside the airport.
For this meal, I ordered fish noodle soup with pickled mustard greens, while my wife went with Korean instant noodles, sausage, and an omelette.
Boarding and Gate

Since Greater Bay Airlines is a budget airline, depending on your flight, you might need to take a shuttle bus to the aircraft instead of boarding directly through a jet bridge.
One thing I noticed was that the boarding gate was quite far away, and we had to go downstairs to reach the boarding area.
I’d recommend giving yourself a little extra time to get to your gate, especially if you’re not familiar with Hong Kong International Airport.
Also, make sure you double-check your gate number before heading there.
What Aircraft Does Greater Bay Airlines Use?
Greater Bay Airlines mainly operates aircraft from the Boeing 737 family.
For my flight from Hong Kong to Bangkok, I flew on a Boeing 737-9, which is one of the newer aircraft types the airline started operating in 2025.

Seats and Cabin Experience
The cabin looked pretty good to me. It was clean and felt quite new.
I think Greater Bay Airlines did a good job here, especially considering that it’s a budget airline.
Of course, the legroom isn’t that generous, and the seats aren’t as comfortable as what you’d normally expect from a full-service airline.
But for a flight of just over two hours, I think it’s perfectly fine.

The seats can recline, and one thing I liked was that the headrests have adjustable side wings for extra support.
It’s a small detail, but I think it’s nice to have.
Overall, the seats were comfortable enough for me. Nothing particularly special, but definitely not bad either.
One thing I’d recommend is downloading some movies or shows before your flight.
There were no personal entertainment screens or blankets provided on my flight, so it’s better to prepare your own entertainment.
However, you can still buy food, drinks, and snacks from the cabin crew as usual.
Greater Bay Airlines Baggage Allowance
One thing I really want to mention is the baggage allowance.
If you’re booking one of the cheaper promotional fares, make sure you check whether checked baggage is included.
For cabin baggage, Greater Bay Airlines generally allows one carry-on bag weighing up to 7 kg, with total dimensions not exceeding 115 cm.
Checked baggage allowances depend on the ticket type you purchase.
From my experience, the staff were quite strict about baggage size, so I’d recommend checking your luggage carefully before heading to the airport.
Otherwise, you might end up paying extra.
I think this is pretty normal for budget airlines, though. Just make sure you know what your ticket includes before traveling.
Note: Baggage policies may change. Please check the latest baggage allowance on the official Greater Bay Airlines website before your flight.
How Much Did I Pay for My Greater Bay Airlines Flight?
For this trip, I flew with Greater Bay Airlines from Hong Kong back to Bangkok.
I managed to book a round-trip ticket for around THB 2,500 per person, including checked baggage.
I think that’s a pretty good deal, especially for a trip between Bangkok and Hong Kong.
Of course, ticket prices will depend on your travel dates, how early you book, and any promotions available at the time.
For me, the price was definitely one of the reasons this flight felt worth it.
Final Thoughts: Is Greater Bay Airlines Good?
Overall, considering the price I paid and the flight duration, I’d give Greater Bay Airlines 8.5/10.
For a budget airline, I think they did a pretty good job.
The aircraft was clean, the seats were comfortable enough for a short flight, and my flight departed on time.
There wasn’t anything particularly fancy about the experience, but I don’t think that’s a problem, especially when you’re only flying for a couple of hours.
The main thing I’d be careful about is the baggage allowance. If you’re traveling without checked baggage, make sure your carry-on meets the airline’s requirements, as the staff can be quite strict about it.
Personally, I still prefer HK Express a little more.
But if Greater Bay Airlines offers a better flight time for my next trip, I’d have no problem flying with them again.
For me, it’s another good option when traveling between Hong Kong and Bangkok.
