If you’re a fan of Olu Mel from Duffy and Friends, this is one character meet-and-greet you really shouldn’t miss at Shanghai Disneyland.

I have to admit, I wasn’t even the biggest Olu Mel fan before this trip. But after meeting him in person… yeah, the little turtle completely won me over. 😂
He was incredibly cute, friendly, and the whole interaction felt surprisingly relaxed. So if you’re hoping to meet Olu Mel during your Shanghai Disneyland trip, here’s where I found him, how long I waited, and what the experience was like.
Where Can You Meet Olu Mel at Shanghai Disneyland?

During my visit, Olu Mel was meeting guests in an area not too far from CookieAnn.
If you enter from the main entrance and walk toward the CookieAnn area, continue until you reach the shop, then turn right into the smaller walkway nearby. That was where I found Olu Mel during my visit.
I’d recommend checking the Shanghai Disneyland app or asking a Cast Member on the day you visit, though, because character appearances and locations can change.
I’m also not completely sure whether Olu Mel appears every single day, so there may be a little bit of luck involved.
And honestly, that makes finally seeing him even more exciting. 😆
How Long Is the Queue to Meet Olu Mel?

This part may require some patience.
When I went, the queue could take around 1–2 hours.
If you’re lucky and visit when the line is shorter, you might only wait around 30 minutes.
That sounds quite long for a character photo, but there’s a reason.
Unlike some character meet-and-greets where everything moves very quickly, my experience at Shanghai Disneyland felt much more relaxed.
You actually get some time to interact with the character instead of simply walking in, taking one photo, and leaving.
During my visit, each group seemed to get several minutes with Olu Mel.
So yes, the line moves slowly.
But once it’s your turn, you understand why.
You Actually Get Time to Play With Olu Mel
This was probably my favorite part.
You don’t have to rush.
There’s time to wave, play around with the character, pose for different photos, and just enjoy the moment.
The Cast Members were also very helpful.
They could use our own phone to take photos for us, and during my visit they were able to take both photos and videos.
So you don’t necessarily need someone in your group to stand outside taking pictures.
You can go in together and get a group photo too.
And if you want a solo photo with Olu Mel?
Of course you can do that as well.
Basically, once you finally reach the front of that queue… enjoy it. 😂
Official Photos Are Available Too

Apart from the photos taken using your own phone, there were also official photos taken by the park staff during my visit.
After the meet-and-greet, I received a small paper card that could be used later to view or purchase the official photos.
So make sure you keep that card.
It’s very easy to put it into a pocket or bag after being distracted by the character and then completely forget about it.
If you like the official shots, you can decide later whether you want to buy them.
Is Meeting Olu Mel Worth the Wait?
If you already love Olu Mel, I think the answer is pretty obvious.
Yes. 😂
But even if you’re only casually interested in Duffy and Friends, I still think the character interaction here is really fun.
The best thing for me wasn’t just getting a photo.
It was that the experience didn’t feel rushed.
You have enough time to enjoy the character, take several pictures, make a short video, and create an actual memory from the visit instead of simply collecting another character photo.
For me, that made the waiting time feel much more worthwhile.
A Few Tips Before You Queue
If Olu Mel is one of your must-meet characters, I’d recommend checking his appearance as early as possible after entering the park.
Character schedules can change, so don’t build your entire day around the assumption that he will definitely appear at the same location or time as my visit.
If the queue is already long, think about whether you have any scheduled shows, restaurant reservations, or attractions you want to ride first.
And if you see the queue at around 30 minutes?
Personally, I’d probably join immediately. 😂
Because based on what I saw, it can become much longer.
Final Thoughts
For anyone who loves Olu Mel and wants a cute little moment at Shanghai Disneyland, definitely keep an eye out for his meet-and-greet.
He really is adorable.
I went in thinking it would just be another character photo and somehow walked away liking this little turtle much more than before.
Just remember that I can’t guarantee he’ll be there every day or standing in exactly the same place when you visit.
So check the latest information once you’re inside the park, and hopefully you’ll get lucky.
If you do meet him, take your time and enjoy it.
The queue might be long, but once it’s finally your turn, those few minutes with Olu Mel go by very quickly. 🙂
