[TG 662] Thai Airways Review: Bangkok – Pudong (Shanghai) Economy Class | Shanghai

Travel blog Shanghai about 4 min read

Reviewing Thai Airways Economy Class: Bangkok (BKK) – Pudong (PVG). The total flight time is approximately 4 hours. We flew on the Airbus A350, a spacious wide-body aircraft with dual aisles, ensuring a comfortable ride. The flight departed from Suvarnabhumi Airport at around 1:00 AM and arrived at Pudong Airport at 6:00 AM (Shanghai local time).

Check-in Tips

I recommend arriving for check-in by 9:00 PM to avoid heavy queues or potential parking issues during peak hours. The check-in counter opens 3 hours before departure. Please note that passengers must board at SAT-1, which may take more time than usual. Arriving early is definitely the safest bet.

What’s Included in Economy Class?

As a full-service airline, Thai Airways includes checked baggage (usually around 23 kg) and free seat selection before the flight. Meals are provided in Economy Class, making it very convenient as you don’t have to worry about purchasing extra weight or food.

Additionally, pillows, blankets, headphones, and in-flight entertainment screens are fully provided. One minor note: the audio quality of the provided headphones might not be as high as expected, but they are decent enough for the flight.

How is the Seat?

For me, I’d rate the seat comfort at 8/10. The cushions are quite comfortable, though the legroom felt a bit tight. I am 178 cm tall, so my knees were touching slightly, but it was still a good experience overall.

The seats are reclinable, and the headrest can be adjusted up and down. You can also fold the sides of the headrest to act as a neck support (many people might not know this, so try adjusting it for much better comfort!).

In-flight Food and Drinks

On this flight, I ordered the Stir-fried Shrimp Noodles. It was served with bread and salted butter, a dessert (Mango Panna Cotta—if I recall the name correctly), and Stir-fried Fish with Ginger, which balanced the flavors perfectly.

As for the taste, the noodles were great and came with plenty of shrimp. It wasn’t spicy, making it easy for anyone to enjoy. The stir-fried fish had a slight Thai-style spiciness, but it wasn’t overwhelming.

The dessert was excellent; I really enjoyed the sweet scent and texture of the mango. For beverages, they offered a full selection including Cola, water, wine, beer, and various fruit juices.

Is it Worth the Price?

I purchased the ticket through an app for approximately 8,000 THB per person (Economy Class). Compared to low-cost carriers, it might be 20-30% more expensive, but considering the 23 kg baggage allowance, seat selection, and meals, I found it very worth it—especially for longer flights where having a meal on board makes the journey much more relaxed.

In-flight Entertainment

There is a wide selection of Thai movies, ranging from new releases to classics. Foreign films with Thai subtitles are also available, along with a variety of Thai and international music.

Additionally, there are games and a tail-fin camera view to enjoy. The modern touchscreens are responsive. The only slight drawback is the headphones, but if you’re not too picky, it shouldn’t be an issue.

Conclusion

Overall, it is well worth the price for the convenience and full service provided. The food is delicious, and the drink selection is great.

Pro-tip: Since you have to board at SAT-1, I suggest having a meal at the main terminal first. SAT-1 has significantly fewer dining options than the main terminal, and you need to factor in the travel time to get there.

I hope you enjoy your trip to Shanghai! Travel safe and thank you for reading. This review is based on my actual experience and is not sponsored.
