Review Hong Kong Uber 2025

Travel blog Hong Kong about 4 min read

I took my niece and mother to Hong Kong during April. On my first trip, I took my niece on the A21 bus into the city from Hong Kong Airport. However, I immediately realized that this trip would be difficult for my mother and three-year-old niece to manage using the subway and buses. So, I decided to try calling an Uber after arriving at the hotel.

The first car they tried was an Uber X, the cheapest option, for a ride from my hotel in Mong Kok to a restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui. The fare was approximately HKD 82.79 (THB 353.27). The app displayed the total amount to be paid upfront. After selecting the Uber type, the system immediately deducted the payment.

I paid using debit card. Once the payment was successful, the system searched for a driver. This time, the car assigned was a Honda Freed with a license plate ending in 3 or 4 digits and the driver’s name.

A little tip: Before setting the pin, it’s recommended to double-check the pick-up point to prevent the driver from parking on the wrong side. It’s best to check on Google Maps beforehand to ensure the pin is accurate. Checking nearby landmarks via Street View is even better to avoid mistakes and additional charges if the driver has to wait.

After that, you’ll see the driver’s location in the app, and the system will share your real-time location so the driver can find you easily.

How is Uber better than regular taxis? From my perspective, Uber cars tend to be cleaner and newer. Most Ubers are Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model Y, Toyota Alphard, MG, or BYD. The price you pay includes everything, so there are no extra charges for crossing the harbor, luggage, or other fees. You pay exactly what you see in the app.

How much does an Uber to Hong Kong Disneyland cost?

When I called an Uber Comfort from Mong Kok to Disneyland, the fare shown was HKD 218 (THB 1,192). The car was a Tesla Model Y, and the journey took approximately 25–35 minutes. For the return trip, I called a Tesla Model 3 to Tsim Sha Tsui for dinner, which cost around HKD 220. While the cost might seem higher than taking the train, it was considered very convenient and comfortable for those traveling with children and the elderly.

A note about Travel cards:

I tried using my Krungsri Boarding Card, which had been exchanged for HKD, but the payment couldn’t be processed. This might be because the Uber system doesn’t support it. It’s recommended to use a debit card instead, which seemed to solve the problem. I found the exchange rate acceptable, with not much difference. If others have had success with different cards, please share your experience.

Finally, if you are planning a trip to Hong Kong, I wish you a wonderful time enjoying the crispy pork belly rice, roast goose rice, and especially the suckling pig rice. A visit to Wong Tai Sin Temple is also highly recommended. I visited in April 2025, and the weather was around 20-25°C, pleasantly cool, and the queues for rides on weekdays were very short. How to easily sign up for Uber in Hong Kong:

https://www.uber.com/us/en/download

First, download the Uber application from the App Store or Play Store. Sign up using your Thai phone number or Local number.

Initially, select “Sign in with Google Account,” and Uber will link your Thai phone number later. If you haven’t enabled roaming, it’s recommended to turn on Wi-Fi calling to receive the OTP code from your primary Thai number. Once verified, link your debit/credit card to the account and you can start requesting rides.
