Review: Toy Story Hotel at Shanghai Disneyland (Halloween Edition)

Travel blog Shanghai about 4 min read

Introduction: Toy Story fans cannot miss the Toy Story Hotel at Shanghai Disneyland. It’s easy to fall in love with this place—everywhere you walk, you are greeted by characters from the movies.

Where is the Toy Story Hotel Shanghai?

The hotel is located right within the Shanghai Disneyland resort area. There is a free shuttle bus running every 10–15 minutes between the hotel and the theme park. The trip takes about 10 minutes to get to the park and just over 5 minutes to return.

How much is the Toy Story Hotel?

The price is considered very affordable, especially compared to Disney hotels in Japan. It is easy to book via Agoda or Trip.com. I paid approximately 270-300 USD per night and depends on your room type as well.

Note: Prices vary by season. I recommend booking 2–3 months in advance to avoid fully booked rooms.

What are the perks of staying here?

Guests staying at the resort hotel receive several special privileges:

  • Early Park Entry: You get to enter the park 1 hour before the official opening time (a value of 190 CNY/person). This benefit is valid for the day after you check in. Staying for 2 nights is highly recommended to make the most of this.
  • Luggage Storage: If you only stay for one night, you can check out and leave your luggage at the lobby for free before heading to the park.
  • Exclusive Merchandise: The hotel shop sells special collections, including items from the “Secret Shop.” If you missed out on booking the Secret Shop entry, you might find what you want here.
  • Shuttle Bus: Free transportation between the hotel and Disneyland.
  • Character Meet & Greets: Exclusive photo opportunities with characters just for hotel guests.

There are many other benefits, so be sure to check your rights upon check-in.

Room Atmosphere

The rooms are quite spacious—you can easily open a 29-inch suitcase. Inside, you’ll find twin beds (approx. 3.5 ft) and a TV loaded with Disney movies and park information.

The bathroom features a large bathtub (not very deep, making it perfect for children, but adults can soak as well). Amenities like slippers and toothbrushes are all themed around Toy Story.

The room is equipped with both air conditioning and a heater, which you can adjust to your preference.

Check-in / Check-out Times

  • Check-in: 3:00 PM
  • Check-out: Before 11:00 AM
  • Luggage: You can store your bags at the lobby if you arrive early or after you check out.

Can you check in early? Honestly, yes, but it strictly depends on room availability. I received my room at 1:30 PM. A tip is to ask the staff every hour; if you see them holding the blue pads/books, try asking for your key.

How to get to the Toy Story Hotel

  1. DiDi (Ride-hailing): From Pudong Airport, it costs about 110 CNY (~600+ THB). This is the most recommended method as it is the least tiring.
  2. Metro (Train): Requires 2–3 transfers from the airport. Cost is about 5 CNY (~25 THB) per person to Disney Resort Station, followed by a shuttle bus to the hotel.

Recommendation: Use DiDi to save energy. It takes only about 20 minutes. The train is doable but involves carrying luggage up and down stairs.

Summary

This is a fantastic hotel that Toy Story fans will absolutely love. The hotel features the Sunnyside Café, and breakfast can be purchased separately for under 200 CNY per person (served until 11:00 AM).

The best part? Staying next to Disneyland and Disneytown means you have endless food options and easy access to the World of Disney Store (prepare to be tempted to buy everything!).

Most importantly, the Early Park Entry allows you to ride popular attractions like Zootopia: Hot Pursuit, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train in the morning with zero wait times. This saves you thousands of Baht on Disney Premier Access (DPA). I highly recommend running to these rides first thing in the morning before the park officially opens and the long queues begin.

Have a fun trip, and thank you for reading!
